LWR Member Spotlight: Danielle Marshall

Let’s all be honest with ourselves for a moment: no matter how much you love working from home, it can be lonely sometimes. That’s why Ladies Work Remote has become such a fantastic group – it gives us all a chance to do great work while also enjoying some friendly chatter. That wouldn’t be half as fun if we didn’t happen to have so many amazing women in the group!

If you’re considering dipping your toes into the pool and coming to your first meetup (or if you’re a long-time LWRer who wants to get to know our backbone members), this blog series is dedicated to giving you the inside scoop on our most established members. This time, we’re getting the deets on one of our longest-standing leaders, Danielle Marshall!

Tell us a bit about yourself!

I’m an edtech entrepreneur, specifically working in solutions and tools for college visits, and I’m a marketing consultant as well. I grew up in Miami and Houston, but I spent years living in Atlanta and today I’m in Louisville, Kentucky.

What has been your journey with working remotely?

Before Atlanta I was living in Fort Worth, TX, and when I moved to Atlanta, I arranged to keep my job from Fort Worth by working remotely. Even after I left that job and started grad school, I was able to do all my schooling remotely. That was in 2016, and I haven’t looked back since! I love having little or no commute time, and the flexibility has been amazing. I love the fact that I can work from home, from a co-working spot, from an entirely different state while visiting family, and anywhere in between. I’m glad that so many more people have been able to experience those benefits for themselves recently.

How did you get involved in Ladies Work Remote?

When I was in grad school, I was looking for a way to get out of the house while doing my classwork. I went on the Meetup app and found Ladies Work Remote, and it was exactly what I was looking for! It gave me a way to get out and be social while I worked, and it gave me a place to meet new people too, since I was still new to Atlanta.

I loved being able to help the group grow (in fact, the first meetup I attended was the first meetup in Atlanta). When I moved to Louisville a few years ago for my husband’s job, I decided to start a chapter of my own in my new city, and it’s been such a joy to watch this new chapter grow too. In both chapters, my favorite part has absolutely been the people I’ve met! I have connected with so many talented, driven, and caring women, many of whom have become lifelong friends, and I’m forever grateful to be a part of LWR.

Now for the fun stuff – what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I love spending time with family members! I was fortunate to be able to continue seeing family during the pandemic, but I can’t wait to be able to see everyone together. I’ve also been enjoying some road trips during the pandemic, exploring different cities and parks throughout Kentuckiana. Reading has been a great pastime for me lately too – I’m in a book club and I’m on my sixth book for 2021: The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave.

If you could choose your ideal work environment, where would it be?

That’s easy! Anywhere with a comfy seat, a drink to sip on, and plenty of natural light.

Danielle is just one of the long-time LWR members who help to make this group something truly special to be a part of. If you want to get to know our crew better, there’s nothing like trying out a meetup for yourself! Learn more about how to join Ladies Work Remote.
