LWR Member Spotlight: Liz Shinn
If you ask any member of Ladies Work Remote about the best part of the group, they’ll probably say the same thing: the other members! Not to brag, but we have a spectacular group of women who are creative, innovative, intelligent, and just downright fun to be around.
If you’re new to our coworking group or if you’re watching on the sidelines to see if you want to hop in, this LWR Member Spotlight blog series is for you! It’s a chance to get to know some of our members from around the country so you can get a feel for the great community we have to offer. And for our first member spotlight, we could think of no one better than our group’s founder, Liz Shinn.
Our first member spotlight is… Liz Shinn!
Tell us a bit about yourself!
Hi, I’m Liz! I grew up in Dunwoody, a suburb of Atlanta, and though I’ve lived and spent time in so many places around the world, my home base is midtown Atlanta. I’m a graphic designer and product designer by day and I operate Ladies Work Remote as a side project.
When did you get started working remotely?
I’ve been working remotely full-time for about five years now! I had started working in cafes and coffee shops, and ultimately, I made the switch to full-time remote working so I could travel without taking time off work. I love having that freedom to be anywhere in the world, and even in my home city, having the freedom to change my schedule and environment in a way that best fits my productivity.
What’s the story of how Ladies Work Remote came to be?
I was working remotely and I had recently moved to the DC area where I didn’t know other people who worked remotely, so I was lonely during the day. I missed the social aspects of working in an office, so I decided to merge my passions for organizing and socializing, and I formed the Ladies Work Remote group. The goal was to cowork with other women in coffee shops and cafes, and I was thrilled to see how many other women were looking for that same type of community.
Give us a glimpse into your free time! What are your hobbies?
I’ve always loved baking and cooking, and in fact, when I was growing up, I wanted to go to culinary school and open my own café! I enjoy being around people and especially making unexpected connections, which is something I’ve been able to do often with LWR. I also love playing tennis and reading, and as a relatively new homeowner, I’m always on the lookout for inspiration for my next DIY project.
What’s your ideal work environment?
I love having a balance of work time at home and in more social settings. Most days, I enjoy working from home in the morning and then heading out to a café or another local spot in the afternoon for a pastry or coffee while I work. It’s a great way to get past the afternoon slump!
Coworking and community
Liz isn’t just the founder of Ladies Work Remote – she’s a powerful part of what has made this group the success that it is today. Her welcoming energy has created a warm and inspiring community that so many of us have enjoyed, and for that, we are all grateful! Thank you for all that you do, Liz!
